You are most welcome to this event, please respond to  secretary@39battalion.com so we can cater for you.

This is the day chosen by the Veterans of the 39th to be the day on which the 39th Association Members  make a Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne, to remember the actions of the 39th Battalion in the period of its’ existence in WW2.

Along with remembering the actions of the Battalion, the veterans also remembered the men. Many did not come home, many more came home injured or suffering the effects of war, they were also to be honoured. With the passing of time we remember too, those who have passed on since the war.

This was written into the Constitution/Rules of the Association by the veterans to be conducted on an “appropriate day annually.” In practice they adopted the second Sunday in August as that “appropriate day”.

It is our duty to continue with the Kokoda Day Pilgrimage into the future and everyone is welcome to this special event.

We follow this with light refreshments

Kokoda Day is also Commemorated at the One Tree Hill Memorials Park in the Dandenong Ranges National Park. 08 August annually at 1:00pm, the actual time and date that the 39th troops re-entered Kokoda after forcing the Japanese out.

Again we welcome all to these simple but moving services.
